Engagement Ring (J Olav van der Spree)
Please Miss, can you run this note
In tomorrow's Classifieds
Maybe there is guys out there
With better luck than mine
The inscription says "Forever"
This my name, that is hers
It's only been out the box the once
I'll take half of what it's worth
One former careful owner
A rock and everything
I'm taking out an ad to sell
A slightly used Engagement Ring
Excuse me, miss. I'm choking up
I'll try and compose myself
See, it wasn't her at all
Can't rightly blame it on no one else
You think it might be easier
If I handed you this note?
Seems there's something in my eye
And I can't make out what I wrote
I brought a picture with me
How much to put that in?
I'm taking out an ad to sell
A slightly used Engagement Ring
Can you print I know I been a fool
This breakup's all my fault
The sidesteppin' and the midnight drinkin'
Is a sure way to break a heart
I know it's nobody's business mam
And it sure ain't your concern
See, I'd like to have it in print by tomorrow
Even at eighty cents a word
I never meant to hurt her
Lord knows that I did
I'm taking out an ad to sell
A slightly used Engagement Ring

Time And Sense
03:22
|
|||
They were days of cigarettes and wine
Of partying and staying out all night
Not coming home till the break of dawn
Or sleeping in a stranger's arms
Of lying and never coming clean
Believing the only truth was me
Of staying in the shadows
When I should've been dancing in the stars
Now it's too late to make amends
For when I had more time than sense
You can't forgive and grant me another try
I've grown a lot, I'm wiser and
I changed into a different man
Who's heart will heal with each new song he writes
And break a bit, every day
I remember all the times I hurt -you
May say I'll get my just desserts - you
May keep me awake at night
You may haunt my dreams
But I draw the line I won't take the blame
For the note you wrote and the pills you ate
And the bottle that I left
...supposedly...
Now what is left but to second guess
It seems we had more time than sense
I can't go back and grant you another try
I've grown a lot, I'm wiser and
I turned into a better man
Who's heart will heal with each new song he writes
And break some more, every day
Until he dies

Drink Away The Hurt
03:25
|

They say every cloud will have a silver line
But their proverbs won't rock me to sleep at night
Friends offer advice, what do they know?
I just can't belive I ever let me go
I been told there's plenty more fish in that sea
And I know that I should probably let you be
Momma said for every church
There'd be a hundred thousand girls
But if you don't mind I'll sit quietly
And drink away the hurt
Ever since you left I haven't smiled
I'll make a face and put on my disguise
I never won when you were mine
And we were playing for my heart
Let me try my luck at the end of the bar
I been told there's plenty more fish in that sea
And I know that I should probably let you be
Momma said for every church
There'd be a hundred thousand girls
I know what I should contemplate
And I haven't been myself of late
Still if there's no more lessons you'd like me to learn
I think I'll sit here quietly
And drink away the hurt

House On The Hill
03:09
|
|||
Meadow rolling past the fence, only captured by the stream
The crinkle in your nose as you go chasin down a dream
The names you watched me carve in the skin on that apple tree
Know that I'm love with you
And I promise it'll always will be
You and me in our little house on the hill
My shirts are wet and my boots are worn, my belly is getting tight
You move in extra close when the rain is on the roof at night
I ain't worth a damn if I can't get you to smile
Know that I'm in love with you
And I promise I always will be
You and me in out little house on the hill
The roses in the yard and now I let it all go to hell
The miles you walked to make it work
And wanted nothing for yourself
Know that I'm in love with you
And there ain't never been no one else
But you and me in out little house on the hill
I just can't past the way you make feel
